Keeping Industrial Feasibility at the Heart of European Regulatory Discussions

Posted on

CETS is engaging in several institutional and technical discussions that are shaping the future of the European surface treatment sector.

Current activities include participation in the STM BREF work in Seville, with the involvement of President Malte Zimmer, as well as engagement in the JRC discussion on PFAS management techniques, also taking place in Seville.

CETS is also evaluating further opportunities to strengthen its institutional presence. These include possible participation in the next NERSAP meeting, expected in Spain in October 2026, and an opportunity in Finland to present a company case to national authorities, building on the experience developed in Italy on the Cr(VI) occupational exposure limit.

At the same time, CETS is monitoring relevant meetings and initiatives connected to the OEL file, the SME Working Group and broader chemical regulatory discussions, including the Chemical Watch Regulatory Summit Europe held in April 2026.

These activities are part of a wider strategy to ensure that the surface treatment sector is represented wherever technical evidence, industrial feasibility and regulatory proportionality are being discussed.

The coming months are expected to be particularly important. The Cr(VI) restriction proposal is returning as a key priority, while the PFAS restriction, the STM BREF review, OEL developments and worker-safety discussions continue to shape the regulatory framework for the sector.

CETS is therefore working with its members and national associations to collect technical input, align common positions and support a realistic and sustainable transition for the European surface treatment industry.
