The CETS – Henk de Man Memorial Award 2018 is awarded to Dr. Veronique Steukers (Nickel Institute) for her meritorious service

Every two years, the CETS Henk de Man Memorial Award is presented to a person or organization for meritorious service in the interests of the surface treatment industry in Europe.

This year, the honour goes to Dr. Veronique Steukers. She has engaged herself in the Risk Management Options procedure, RMO, that has been developed as an alternative for authorisation within the REACH-legislation. This procedure was developed in close corporation with the French organisation Anses. Moreover, Dr. Veronique Steukers played an important role in the development of the occupational exposure limits cost impact tool to assist SMEs.

Dr. Steukers will receive the Award from the CETS president, Dave Elliott. This will take place during the opening ceremony of the Benelux WEEK of the SURFACE TECHNOLOGY in ‘s-Hertogenbosch on November the 13th.

CETS congratulates Dr. Steukers with the Award and is grateful for her contribution in the rather difficult discussion regarding the availability of necessary chemicals for the surface engineering industry. Our fundamental philosophy still aims to substitute SVHC substances if at all possible. But if not possible, the importance of SVHC substances used by the industry in a safe and environmentally friendly way is paramount. Dr. Steukers has shown great engagement with this subject over many years and this has helped direct our industry yet again in a promising direction.
